UPI-AGRO has completed the second stage of reconstruction of the dairy management system using Canadian technology

UKRPROMINVEST-AGRO has completed the second stage of reconstruction of the dairy management system. On September 10, the cowbarn "Canada-2" in the heifer complex in the village of Dzygovka, Yampolsky district were put into operation. It is a powerful breeding reproducer centre on the Ukrainian genetics market which specializes in American Holstein breed. New cowbarn has 463 places, and the housing conditions allow to get more than 12,000 milk yield per calendar year per cow.

UPI-AGRO started reconstruction the cow housing system in 2017. At the beginning of next year, the first reconstructed cowbarn "Canada-1" for 406 places was opened. Due to Maxim Armashov, Director of Livestock Breeding Department of UPI-AGRO, the new housing technology improves preservation of cows and minimizes culling rate of the herd.

“Tunnel ventilation which provides constant supply of fresh, cooled air was installed in the new premises. Also, specialized mattresses were covered, which allow to minimize diseases of legs and udders of cows, and specialized drinking bowls of a capacitive type satisfy cow's need for water in one minute. In addition, the farm was equipped with a new milking facility with the highest milk capacity and automatic removal of devices to eliminate dry milking, a powerful vacuum system that provides a stable vacuum without vacillation. Reconstruction in 2017 gave its results. We have noticed a significant decrease in “dropping” cows out of the herd, improving herd health (especially legs and udders). Due to the comfort of housing the ration intake was increased. We expect the same results now,” comments Maxim Armashov.

The final reconstruction phase of cow housing systems is scheduled for October this year.

The cowbarn “Canada-3” for 240 places is to be put in operation on October 31.

After the reconstruction is finished, the UPI-AGRO heifer complex will become the largest complex in Europe with the Dell-Pro milking system from Delaval at one site.
